WidgetBucks Vs. TTZ Media
The recent Google PR nuking disturbed a whole debate on just what the hell did WidgetBucks do to piss off Google. First Shoemoney brought up the question that “Why does Google hate WidgetBucks?” Then the great John Chow also discussed “Why WidgetBucks got banned from Google?”
It is brought to everyone’s attention that WB’s flash ads include (or used to) include a hidden link back to WB. Many considered it cheating, and the recent PR dropping for many sites (some don’t even use WB) only make more people shy away from the product.
But should you? I am not expert in making money online, as I just begin blogging this past July, but why does it matter for up and rising bloggers like yourself? Your PR is probably 0, and you can probably use an extra buck from the referral program or just the ads itself. Personally, I think outside of the hidden link, the flash widget looks nice.
Some people prefer the fancy looking ones. Many people also complained about the low the pay rate is. As Zac Johnson showed with his WB pag, he averaged a low 0.022 per click with over 200,000 impressions. Not stellar, but Zac also pointed out that it was good enough to replace AuctionAds, and is great for as a filler for additional revenue. It also gives a start up $25 bucks, so you are already half way through the first check!
How about TTZ Media? It is John Chow’s ad network and it can’t be too bad. Similar service to WB, TTZ does give you more freedom in terms of the products being shown. Instead of categories like WB offers, TTZ does keywords, and they are quite effective. I was getting good exposure for the ads until I messed up my domain last week. Plus, TTZ give you more ways to promote the network and get referrals with 15 different sizes of banners. The PPC rate isn’t stellar, but very nice for smaller blogs, and that was one of the main reason John Chow introduced it.
Here is what a TTZ ad look like (a 450 x 225, single product + rating, my personal weapon of choice):
Anyway, as a conclusion, it really come down to personal preference to choose between WidgetBucks and TTZ Media. WB is like the better looking bad boy that has a reputation, you may not get a whole lot of reward, but it is at least easy on the eyes; while TTZ is going to do just fine under John Chow, and is solid for gadgets reviewing sites.
At the end of the day, you are getting that pay check, so who cares? =)
